Zadig & Voltaire is a French ready-to-wear brand created in 1997 by Thierry Gillier. The name of the brand was inspired from Voltaire’s “Zadig, or the Book of Fate”, whose main character Zadig made an impression on Thierry Gillier, owing to his modernity, charisma and courage.
The choice of pure and precious materials, added to a stylistic signature made of a casual and rock ’n’ roll design that is immediately recognizable, constituted from an early stage the identity of the brand. The tunisien, now a mythical T-shirt, was to become a best seller and paved the way to success.
Ultra creative, the stitch was of major importance in the collections, especially cashmere, the most famous fibre of the House: T. Gillier modernized the way it was worn, revisited the cuts and customized the versions through the inscription of messages or names in coloured intertia, as Elvis’ and Mike’s, genuine identifiers of the universe of rock ’n’ roll often used by Zadig & Voltaire, like the skull or the angel.
The House’s creations, dedicated to women in the first place, were soon directed to men as well, and then children in 2006. The House is also committed in the sponsoring of various charities as “Toutes à l’école”.
